Vivian Maier & photobooth #4

Friday night Vincent and I headed to brooklyn to see a slideshow presentation about the life and work of street photographer Vivian Maier.

It was a great presentation and it was awesome to see old photos of my hometown, Chicago (as well as some of New York). Vivian Maier seemed like a fascinating person who was extremely dedicated to her craft. I really enjoy her work and look forward to seeing more of it and learning more about her life as her story unfolds. Although she was a private person and not many people knew a lot about her, her sense of humor and curiosity is expressed through her beautiful photographs. I learned that Vivian Maier was a solo world traveler, a quiet observer, and a collector of things, and I'd be lying if i said that I didn't see a little bit of myself in her.
Thank you, John Maloof for taking the time to scan & catalog thousands of negatives and to uncover information about this amazing artist.

After the presentation we headed down the block to visit Bubbys Brooklyn, pick up some chocolate peanut butter pie, and check photobooth #4 off of our list.

only 17 more to go!

a wonderful 11.11.11

I got to enjoy some of my favorite things.. friends, photobooths & pie.

We all wore stripes in honor of this momentous occasion.. (even the guy in the background decided to get in on the fun.)

We were able to check photobooth #3 off of our list - the great booth at Bubbys Pie Company.

Our attempts later in the evening to use the photobooths at the Ace hotel and Daffys weren't as successful, (the one at The Ace hotel was taking peoples money without giving a photo in return..luckily the kind people of Ace put a sign up to let us know.)

Daffys was closed by the time we got there, since we were distracted by some photo-ops on the way..

Until next time!

My mom emailed this to me a while back, and I thought I'd share..

Subject: Great Grandpa Miceli
I hope you can open this - It's a picture of your Great Grandfather. He's playing his concertina. He carried it with him during World War I and played it for his fellow comrades. He was a part of an army core of engineers and they were in charge of building bridges. He would get tired of carrying it and throw it away and the other soldiers would retrieve it so they could hear him play. I got this story from my cousin Jean.

I've been going through some old family photos in honor of Dia De Los Muertos.. here are a few of my favorite photographs of my grandparents..
