linoleum prints, old and new

I got this wonderful surprise in the mail from etsy the other day! Its a beautiful limited edition print, letterpressed by the etsy staff. thank you so much etsy! you made my week and brought tears to my eyes!

I love everything about this surprise, from the print itself to the stamps on the envelope. this gift will definitely be cherished :)

In 2003 I started this "Metallic Relics" series of reduction linoleum prints for my final project in class at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I was drawn to these objects because of their beauty and the craftsmanship and materials used to create them. There is also a lot more knowledge, skill and patience involved in learning how to use tools like a manual camera. These are things that I feel that we're losing in this digital age.








Since i no longer have access to a printing studio, i use my ringer washing machine as a miniature printing press. When I'm traveling and don't have access to my press I hand burnish my prints using a wooden spoon.

I've been enjoying quiet moments batiking and sewing lately..
Batik is a dyeing process in which portions of the fabric are painted with wax, and only the uncovered areas (and areas where the wax has cracked) take the dye. The wax is then ironed out to reveal a unique pattern. Here are some of my creations.. more to come !
